Doctor is warning: POLLUTION has led to the increase in number of children with respiratory problems, some are HOSPITALIZED as well

Weather conditions as well as pollution have led to an increase in number of patients with respiratory problems, especially children. Dr Snezana Rsovac, pulmonologist, warns that suspended particles that are in the polluted air pass through the smallest airways and reach the farthest parts of our lungs. They also have a negative effect on development of brain functions especially among children can cause possible infertility and the onset of a number of chronic diseases. Dr Snezana Rsovac, pulmonologist at the University Children’s Hospital Tirsova says that the polluted air enhanced its effect due to fog, and the PM-2.5 and PM-10 particles remain in the lower layers. „They are in fact suspended particles that pass through the smallest airways, reach the farthest parts of lungs and disturb normal gas exchange. In addition, they have their chemical effect and affect body functions, but not only in lungs where the whole process takes place. Numerous studies have shown that they have a very negative effect on the development of brain functions, especially among children, can possibly cause infertility and the onset of a series of chronic diseases and exacerbations among chronic patients, symptoms and course of the disease,“ Rsovac explains. She emphasized that children should not go out when there is fog and smog, in order to avoid unnecessary exposure to pollution. „As for everything else, reduce activities and do not ventilate the room in early hours of the morning, since during this period there is the highest concentration of smog and all particles, do this a little later during the day when the weather is warmer,“ doctor said. The number of children complaining of respiratory problems has increased, and doctor says that in the last ten days there has been an increase in the number of patients with respiratory syncytial virus caused by bronchiolitis, especially among the youngest population, that is among infants and during the first year of life.
