A slap in the face in FCA: Workers from Kragujevac can work in – Slovakia

The Kragujevac based company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) informed production workers that they could apply for work at the Stellantis plant in Slovakia, which produces „Peugeot 208“ and „Citroen C3“ vehicles.

The President of the Independent Trade Union at FCA, Sasa Djordjevic, said that as of this week employees can volunteer to work in a plant in the Slovak City of Trnava.

According to him, those interested in going to Slovakia would sign a one-year employment contract.

Djordjevic said it was important for the union that this invitation remained only on a voluntary basis for the workers.

The union will monitor the interest of workers as well as everything related to wages, expenses and travel insurance for those who decide to work for one year in Slovakia.

„We have been informed that, depending on the number of workers who will go to Slovakia, the volume of vehicle production in Kragujevac will be reduced as well. For example, if there are 50 workers fewer in one shift, 170 to 180 instead of 200 vehicles will be produced in a shift. If around 100 workers decide to leave, production would be reduced to around 120 vehicles a shift,“ Djordjevic said.

He added that in case a number of workers leave, those who stay will have more working days per month.

He stated that the Slovak plant already has many former Fiat workers from Kragujevac, as well as Serbs in general, around 200 of them.

According to his insights, the monthly salary is around EUR 800, but the workers have their own accommodation costs.

Djordjevic believes that such an invitation for workers in Kragujevac, on the long run, means that the FCA does not intend to introduce a new model for production in Serbia in the next year, which, as he assessed, is the only solution for higher employment of workers in Kragujevac.
