A step closer to reconstructing Air Force Headquarters 2 DECADES after NATO bombing

The Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade has announced a tender for drafting technical documentation for the reconstruction of the building of the Air Force Headquarters in Zemun. As stated in the tender, it is necessary to do a study on the condition of the structure of the building, geodetic survey of the total settlement throughout the building, a geotechnical study and a project for the rehabilitation of the structure of the building. The building of the Air Force Headquarters in Zemun was built in 1936 based on the project of architect Dragisa Brasovan and it is one of the most dominant buildings in the old center of Zemun. It has a ground floor and four floors above which there is a proportionally aligned 7-floor tower. The building has distinct architectural and cultural-historical values and the status of a cultural monument. The building was damaged during the bombing, so it is noted in the bidding documents that, since 20 years have passed, it is not certain how much time has contributed to damaging the building. At the same time, the exact condition of parts of the building cannot be determined at the moment from the point of view of both global and local stability. In this regard, in order to fully determine the state of the building, it is necessary to determine the condition of each element of the structure. The deadline for the submission of bids is 22 August 2019 by 12 o’clock. Their public opening will be held on the same day at 12:30 on the premises of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments in Belgrade. According to the public call, the deadline for the execution of works is 120 days from the possession of site by the winner of the competition.
