After 9 decades: „Winner“ taken down (PHOTO / VIDEO)
The most famous monument of the Serbian capital, Belgrade’s „Winner“, was removed from the pedestal after 91 years for restoration purposes. At Kalemegdan, due to the removal of the „Winner“, the upper town of the Belgrade Fortress was closed for visitors until 1pm. The operation of taking down the symbol of Belgrade lasted for two hours, and the „Winner“ was then on display at Carigradski drum until 3pm. Citizens had the opportunity to watch the whole event in live streaming on the Facebook page of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Belgrade. After removing the bronze figure, the „Winner“ will be taken to Smederevo, to the studio of sculptor Zoran Kuzmanovic for restoration.
