Almost half of the population between ages of 15 and 29 wants to leave Serbia at the moment, without the idea of return, vice dean for cooperation with the economy at Belgrade based Faculty of Economic, Dragan Loncar has stated. „Up to 25 percent of educated and younger population might leave the country in the following years,“ he has said at the forum of the Serbian Association of Managers (SAM) „How to Keep Young People in Serbia“. Loncar has also added that, based on the „talent retention capacity“ indicator, Serbia is in 134th place, and based on „talent attraction capacity“ it is in 132nd place out of a total of 137 countries, as presented by survey of the World Economic Forum (WEF). It is also stated at the forum that, according to OECD data (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), more than 650,000 people have left Serbia since 2000, mostly youth. Survey conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2018, encompassing 11,013 students, showed that 25 percent of students want to continue their education abroad, and out of that number 66 percent want to continue their lives abroad as well.
