Almost 5 billion euros from customs administration

In 2018, the Customs Administration of Serbia paid more than 586 billion dinars (4.9 billion euros) to the budget, thus fulfilling 102 percent of the amount set by the Budget Law and it collected 469 million euros more than in the year before, claims the Head of the customs.

„The collection made by the Customs Administration in the last five years recorded a growth of 64.72 percent, i.e. it was higher by about 1.9 billion dinars,“ said Director of the Customs Administration, Milos Tomic, at the ceremony marking the International Customs Day.

As he explained, this growth was mostly influenced by the growth of import, but also by the growth of economic activity in Serbia. He also reported data on the seizures done by the Customs Administration in the last five years.

A total of 21 million euros was seized, four tons of narcotics, 230,000 boxes of cigarettes, 500,000 liters of fuel, 13 tons of tobacco, 60 kg of gold, 5,000 pieces of weapons and 450,000 pieces of ammunition.

Tomic said that after the laws on customs officials and customs law were adopted last year, the Customs Administration fully harmonized its operations with EU laws and got a legal framework for further modernization.

Deputy Director of the Customs Administration, Veselin Milosevic, has announced that in the next five years, the paperwork will be completely abolished in the business practice of the customs administration and that all the procedures will be conducted electronically.

Milosevic expects full automation to enable faster customs operations and predictability.
