BIZLife “30 under 30”: Katarina Kovac, Head of Competence Management Team, “Vip mobile”
Born in Belgrade in 1989, she enrolled in psychology studies in 2008, with the intention of working as a clinical psychologist in the future. However, during her studies, she discovered another love – work psychology. Six years ago, she began working in the HR sector of “Vip mobile”, and earlier this year was given the opportunity to try herself as the leader of a competence management team. In addition to her work at “Vip mobile”, she is receiving training in REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy), since psychotherapy is her first professional love and a great passion. Is there anything you had to renounce in order to get to where you are now? Absolutely nothing at all. It’s all about motivation and good time organization. Did success reach you, or was it the other way round? Both. I was fortunate enough to start my career and continue in a very inspiring and stimulating environment, but I chased success by striving to seize all opportunities for learning and development and respond to challenges in the best possible way. What is the most important lesson you have learned in your work so far? There are a few: When you don’t know, ask; When mistake happens, do not look for the culprit, but focus on what you learned from that mistake; Have empathy, it is a prerequisite for establishing healthy professional relationships. What is the ultimate goal? My ultimate goal is to do what I love and enjoy and what brings value to people by the end of my career. Favourite school subject? In elementary school it was Serbian language and in grammar school it was psychology. First job? Junior HR partner at “Vip mobile”. Business role model? Old craftsmen who remained true to their business and managed to survive despite new trends that dominate the market. Confectioner is a good example of this. Motivational song? “With a little help from my friends”.
