Brnabic: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE in curriculum as of September 1st

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, announced that artificial intelligence will become a part of the curriculum in primary education as of September 1st this year.

At the online presentation of the Study on Evaluation of Digital Accessibility Policies in Serbia, Brnabic said that children are introduced to algorithmic thinking from the first grade of primary school, reminding that as of 2017, programming has become a compulsory subject since the fifth grade.

„Since 2017, we have started with the introduction of digital textbooks and digital classrooms, and the plan is to fully digitalize all our schools and the education system by the end of 2022,“ the Prime Minister said.

She evaluated that retraining in the field of information technologies is an excellent example of care for digital literacy among all age groups, noting that more than 2,000 candidates have completed that training so far and that the process continues.

When it comes to digital connectivity, the Prime Minister explained that the goal is to provide a broadband network for 99 percent of households in Serbia by 2025, evaluating that Serbia has experienced incredible success in the field of government’s digital transformation in the past five years.
