Croats and Austrians DRIVE tourists around Belgrade

In recent years, it has become more and more common for tourist transport operators from Croatia and Austria to come to Serbia by empty buses to pick up foreign tourists, take them on a tour of Belgrade and other parts of the country, without being issued a licence, the Association of Serbian Travel Agencies warns. According to them, this causes great damage to local travel agencies because of the lower volume of tourist turnover. They emphasize that no country in Europe and the world allows the domestic economy to be destroyed in this manner. Yuta’s director Aleksandar Senicic has told Tanjug that it often happens that empty buses, for example from Croatia, arrive to pick up groups of foreign tourists at Belgrade airport, since it has more arrivals than Zagreb airport. „It would not be a problem if a foreign transport operator left straight for Croatia with these guests continuing their journey. This is permissible, but according to the information we obtained and what we learned from the field, these buses take tourists on a tour of Belgrade and a small program through Serbia,“ Senicic says. He states that they have been staying for more than 24 hours in Serbia, which is how long they are allowed, and have been performing activities for which they do not have the approval of the Serbian Ministry of Transport.
