Discographers and phonograph manufacturers: The amended Intellectual Property Law will reduce piracy

The Organization of Phonograph Manufacturers of Serbia (OFPS) and the Union of Discographers of Serbia (UDS) stated today that they expected that amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights would largely resolve the problem of piracy on the Internet.

As it is stated, OFPS and UDS have been advocating for the harmonization of regulations with the EU, together with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, within which the Creative Industry Association has been formed, and they have organized several panels.

The amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights adopted by the Government of Serbia and submitted to the Parliament harmonize this regulation with eight out of ten EU directives.

„The ultimate goal of regulating intellectual property rights is to create an environment in which authors and holders of related rights protect their rights and have adequate compensation for the use of their work and in which the collective achievement of copyright and related rights is enhanced and a balance with the interests of the users is created,“ it is stated in the press release.

It is added that, despite the existing Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, adopted in regular procedure, at the beginning of December 2018, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development formed a task force for drafting the Law on Amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights.
