By the end of 2020, the Institute of Physics in Zemun will open a science and research center Verrocchio, covering the area of 4,000 square meters.

As the Institute told BIZLife, CERN is involved in the entire project, through which the most up-to-date experiments in the field of physics and high technology will be performed. This is also expected to be a chance for the Serbian economy.

The state will provide five million euros for the construction of the facility, and as much will be donated by the biggest international science centers through equipment in the next ten years.

One of the things to be studied and worked on during research are the components of the CERN accelerator. The project will also involve the companies from various fields. Some of these companies are not big, some are exclusively exporters, and some are unknown on our market.

Director of the Institute of Physics, Alekasandar Bogojevic, expects that the Verrocchio Center will contribute to the “academic capital” of Serbia. “The idea is to build a genius factory. Gradually, in Serbia, a completely new economy, which we are not even aware of, is being developed”, Bogojevic believes.

The Verrocchio Center at the Institute of Physics is being built together with the leading global institutions, the strategic partners of the Institute – the European Nuclear Physics Laboratory, CERN, the network of national institutes of Italy, INFN and the largest scientific plant in Germany, DESY.

Through cooperation with CERN and other European partners, Verrocchio will help connect the existing knowledge from several areas such as the development of new generations of accelerators and detectors, modeling complex systems, supercomputing, large database analysis, and solving key challenges in the areas such as biomedicine, archeology and sociology.
