According to the Draft Law on Health Insurance, which entered the parliamentary procedure on January 8th, the chosen doctor can grant sick leave for up to 60 days.

That is twice longer when compared to the present practice, and it is also proposed that, during work absence for the care of a sick child up to 18 years of age, parents receive sick leave compensation in the amount of full salary.

Furthermore, new amendments foresee the possibility of complementary and additional voluntary insurance, and a measure is also foreseen that insurers can interpret as a sanction – in case of unjustified absence from preventive health examinations they will pay 35 percent of the price of treatment, today’s issue of the “Vecernje novosti” daily reports.

As stated, this measure will only be valid if insurer does not reply to several calls within a single screening cycle, and in the meantime he gets a disease that could have been detected and treated on time.
