Last year, around 6,000 people left Serbia and 3,000 in the first half of this year, the Minister of Labour Zoran Djordjevic has stated, adding that more people have surely left, but state did not know about their departure. There are no clear indications of people leaving abroad, the minister has said, answering to journalists’ questions following the sixth session of the Coordination Team for Economic Migration Management. As he has explained, last year the number of those who are no longer looking for job here, meaning they had signed off or signed contracts with employers from abroad, was around 6,000, and in the first half of this year the number was around 3,000. “For sure there are more people,” he has said, reiterating that the exact number is unknown, but that it is certainly not tens of thousands of people leaving the country annually, which are public speculations. Djordjevic has added that the approximate number of those who left the country will be familiar after the new census.
