Lazar Jovanovic is the founder of the company Smart Watering Systems, and by profession he is an electrical and IT engineer. Together with his friends, he designed a remote control system for irrigation through a mobile app. The aim was to provide farmers with assistance for turning irrigation system on from a remote location. He comes from Mali Zvornik, where he planted hazelnuts, and he then found a way to provide them with remote irrigation. At the end of 2015, together with a friend, he started working on the Smart Watering irrigation controller. At the beginning, the system was operated via text messages, but it was later upgraded, and it is now controlled via the Internet. For many farmers, this idea was a discovery that greatly facilitated their work and everyday tasks. The idea of remote irrigation control is the national winner of the competition for innovation in agriculture and, as the first ranked project, it participated in the world finals of the competition “Future Agro Challenge 2017” in the South African Republic. At the national competition held in Novi Sad, they won the first place for entrepreneurship and for the most innovative idea. At the “Youth Heroes 2017” competition, Lazar won 3rd place for entrepreneurship.
