Every fifth young person in Serbia is UNEMPLOYED

The youth unemployment rate in Serbia is two times higher than the general unemployment rate and stands at 22 percent, which is why state is intensively implementing series of incentives and subsidies in order to reduce that unemployment. This was stated by the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Zoran Djordjevic at the Youth Summit 2019. He pointed out that state has reduced that rate by three percentage points over the past year, using various measures, but evaluated that is still not enough. He also reiterated that the Draft Strategy for Economic Migration Management for the period between 2021 and 2027 will be adopted by the Serbian government by the end of January 2020, after which an action plan will be completed. „One of the goals is to find a way to prevent further migration of young people from the country, but also to return those who have already left, that is, to perhaps attract young people from other countries to Serbia,“ Djordjevic said. He also announced that EUR 37 million will be set aside from next year’s budget for reskilling, additional education and internship.
