„Government’s proposal is scandalous, Mali stated YOU ARE FREE TO MOVE OUT“ (VIDEO)

Representatives of the Association of Workers on the Internet announced that the meeting between representatives of freelancers and the Serbian government ended without concrete agreements and ahead of time, since the Government proposed a solution that is unacceptable for them.

The President of the Association, Miran Pogacar, told reporters that freelancers remained firm in their demands, that ongoing tax collection procedures should be suspended and a transitional solution should be found, i.e. tax to be collected from the day when the Tax Administration announced it and which with recognized expenses would be 16 percent.

Representatives of the Government say they are of an opinion that amendments to the law should be adopted in April, on the basis of which the write-off of interest could be expected, but probably also an increase in costs.

„The meeting practically ended without a concrete agreement, the proposal is scandalous and unacceptable for us – they would write off interest, but the obligations would remain and that is unacceptable for us. People don’t have that money, even if it was all applicable by law“, says Pogacar.

The problem arose when, at the end of last year, freelancers were asked to retroactively pay taxes and contributions on income for the previous six years, and these are enormous amounts, which, as they point out, are not proportionally determined.

They emphasize that during the previous weeks of negotiations they showed readiness for cooperation and reasoned discussion, and requested predictable business conditions in order to keep young and educated people working in the IT sector over the Internet in Serbia.

At least 100,000 people are in trouble because of this, state treats us like criminals and we cannot accept this, said Pogacar, adding that they resent representatives of the Government for their attitude as well.

„Minister Sinisa Mali told us to feel free to go to other countries, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic also addressed me sarcastically, and that is a message to us that they see us exclusively as a problem and they would rather cover it up than solve it in an acceptable way,“ added Pogacar.

„I will make sure that they remember this 2021, in what problem they put us in. State treats us like criminals and wants to drive us into debt slavery,“ he said.
