IMMUNIZATION of Serbia resolved? TWO MILLION doses of Russian vaccines are arriving

The Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Government of Serbia have agreed on the delivery of two million doses of the vaccine against the coronavirus „Sputnik V“, it was announced on the official Twitter account of the vaccine.

„The Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Government of Serbia are announcing an agreement on the delivery of two million doses of the world’s first registered vaccine against the coronavirus. Vaccination of the population with the Sputnik V vaccine in Serbia started today,“ it is stated in the announcement.

The first batch of the vaccine was delivered to Serbia on 30 December 2020. The vaccine was approved without further clinical trials in the country.

The agreement between the Russian Fund and the Government of Serbia will enable the vaccination of one million people (the vaccine consists of two doses).

Deliveries of Sputnik V will enable Serbia to diversify its portfolio of vaccines against the coronavirus. The vaccines that will be delivered to Serbia will be produced by the international partners of the Russian Fund in India, China, South Korea and other countries, it is emphasized in the announcement.

„Russia and Serbia are connected by long-term partnership, and we support the government’s decision to use the Sputnik V vaccine to fight the coronavirus. The vaccine is based on a well-studied platform of human adenoviral vectors, which has been proven safe,“ said director of the Fund, Kirill Dmitriev.

The Sputnik V vaccine, produced by the Gamaleya Scientific-Research Institute in cooperation with the Russian Direct Investment Fund, received a registration certificate from the Russian Ministry of Health on 11 August, making it the first registered vaccine against the coronavirus in the world.

The vaccine is based on a well-studied and tested platform of human adenoviral vectors, whose important advantages are safety, efficacy and the absence of long-term side effects.
