JTI’s new investment in Serbia worth $3 million

A new production line, in which US$3 million was invested and which will enable the production of new brands, was commissioned in the factory of JTI (Japan Tobacco International) in Senta. By a click on a tablet computer, the line was put into operation by Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic, Provincial Prime Minister Igor Mirovic, Ambassador of Japan, Junichi Maruyama and Chairman of the Tobacco Division of the JT Group, Mutsuo Iwai. Recalling that JTI has been operating in Serbia since 2006 and that it has since invested more than US$180 million, the Prime Minister said that Japanese investors were an important and integral part of the reforms in Serbia. The new production line will enable JTI to produce new brands in Senta, which will have a positive impact on the trade balance of Serbia, because instead of import, these products will be exported to the markets of Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. JTI is the only foreign company that buys locally grown tobacco, and, as the largest tobacco producer in Serbia, it employs more than 1,000 people in Belgrade and Senta, including tobacco growers and their family members, as well as seasonal workers.
