Minister claims: In this we are the ABSOLUTE leaders in the region

The Minister of Mining and Energy, Aleksandar Antic said that in 2018 and 2019, with more than 400 megawatts of new projects from renewable energy sources (RES), Serbia is the absolute leader in the region. After visiting „Kovacica“ wind farm with the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Zhang Tao, he said that Serbia is „taking major steps towards RES and green energy, which is one of the priorities“. „Serbia has major potentials, first of all when it comes to biomass, wind of course, solar energy, but there are also our hydro and geothermal potentials. Serbia indeed has all the conditions to provide its contribution to the fight against climate change in the following decades,“ Antic said. He added that Serbia invested more than EUR 400 million in projects at „Elektroprivreda Srbije“ (EPS), i.e. in coal-fired power plants, in order to make their operation more efficient and to achieve environmental protection standards. He pointed out he is „convinced that by 2020, Serbia will reach the target of 27 percent of total energy consumption coming from RES, which is far above the EU average.“ „I expect that, during realization of these plans, we will first and foremost have the support of the international financial institutions, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the German Development Bank (KfW) in Serbia, which funded most of the projects through favourable financial lines,“ said Antic.
