    New law on postal services

A new law regulating postal services has come into force. The new provisions will increase user safety, so it will no longer be possible for anyone to receive a brick instead of an ordered cell phone.

Last year, on average, 131 packages per household were delivered. The postal service sector generated revenue of RSD 20 billion, accounting for 0.4 percent of gross domestic product.

The main motive for passing the new law is, in addition to improving security, the alignment of this area with EU legislation.

When it comes to the security of shipments, if you happen to order a cell phone and a brick, for example, arrives at your home address, the new law will allow you to track the sender.

„It has often happened that people receive the contents of a package that they have not ordered. The control function of the state is now increased, through the introduction of a professional monitoring institute, where state authorities coordinate activities,“ said Nikola Trubint of the Electronic Communications and Postal Services Regulatory Agency.

RATEL, the inspectorate of the competent ministry and other state authorities will thus have an opportunity to better control the contents.

In addition, mandatory identification of the user who sends the goods will be introduced, which will subsequently facilitate the complaint process.

So far, Posta Srbije requested documents from senders, which will now also be an obligation for everyone involved in the provision of postal services.
