    Novosti daily: VW chose Serbia!

Volkswagen will build a new factory in our country. The German automotive giant has chosen Serbia, rather than Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey or North Macedonia, the Novosti daily learns.

Although the Bulgarians have long been the favorites for obtaining this investment ,  , the Volkswagen company chose our country. According to the Novosti daily, the first cars from Serbia’s Volkswagen are due to be launced in 2023.

It was no secret that the Germans planned to open a new facility in this part of Europe. They publicly repeated this information several times, but the dilemma was in which country.

Romania and Bulgaria are members of the European Union, so it was expected that they would first obtain the new investment. Compared to them, Turkey had slightly lower chances, as a large market with 80 million inhabitants. Nevertheless, the performance of the Serbian economy, the arrival of almost all of the major automotive component manufacturers, as well as the friendly relations of the state leaders with colleagues from Germany tipped the balance in Serbia’s favour.

The new VW factory should have a capacity of 300,000 cars a year, and it would contribute to our exports with 4.5 billion euros. Five models from Volkswagen’s, Skoda’s and Seat’s range should be produced in Serbia, that is, vehicle brands that are an integral part of the German company.

According to some earlier announcements from Volkswagen, but also from Bulgaria, which hoped for this business deal, the investment is worth about 1.4 billion euros. The factory is planned to have 5,000 employees of whom as many as 650 engineers.
