Ombudsman: DISMISSALS without explanation and workers without PROTECTION

Ombudsman Zoran Pasalic has said that this year’s International Workers’ Day, 1 May, is celebrated under completely new circumstances caused by the coronavirus epidemic and in a state of emergency, which have also affected workers’ positions. „The number of dismissed workers, especially from the private sector, is still unknown to the public, while those who perform work tasks are in various ways exposed to the coronavirus infection at work, because of which, some of them, unfortunately passed away,“ Pasalic said in a written statement. He states that health workers, but also salesmen, police and army representatives, postmen, volunteers, journalists are most at risk of the coronavirus. He says that in their complaints, citizens most often state that they have received dismissals without explanation, that they are forced to leave their children without parental supervision in order to go to work, but also that they work in unsafe conditions, without protective equipment and prescribed work procedures. „Out of the total number of citizens’ complaints in this period, as much as 20 percent refer to the violation of labour rights,“ Pasalic said.
