Radar for arable land arsonists
The Ministry of Agriculture and the “BioSense” institute, in cooperation with the European Space Agency, are developing and testing a platform via which they will be able to detect fires on agricultural land across Serbia. The Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic has pointed out that this system is being tested and those who are burning stubble on agricultural land will be located via satellite. “BioSense” has developed a platform that can identify every fire on every parcel in real time. We cannot see the executor at every single moment, but we can identify him with the parcel in question,” Minister Nedimovic has stated. He adds that the system is currently being tested at the territory of Vojvodina and results recorded from October 9th to 19th are shocking. According to him, 950 parcels were set on fire in a local self-government in central Banat, and in total there were almost a thousand cases of stubble burning in Ruma, Pecinci and Sremska Mitrovica.
