RECORD YIELD: There will be wheat for export, but it is UNSTABLE

The wheat harvest in Serbia is over, and according to the first information from the „Zita Srbije“ Association, record yields are expected.

We have yields of 5.7 tons per hectare on the level of the entire country, while in Vojvodina they are again slightly higher than in central Serbia, Suncica Savovic, director of that association, told the Politika daily.

She said that in the total result, this would mean that the yield is 3.4 million tons. With last year’s stocks of 300,000 tons and domestic consumption that requires about 1.5 million tons, Serbia will have more than two million tons of grain for export in the new economic year.

What is not sold will go into transitional stocks. Everything with wheat turned out much better than expected, Savovic said.

Asked whether the producers will be satisfied with the price, she answered that farmers, „if they are realistic, and there are some who are, then they will be satisfied. If, regardless of all the factors, and there are many of them, they only view the prices from last year, then they will not be,“ Savovic said.

Although the harvest in Serbia is over, it is not yet completely finished in the European Union and Russia. World grain exchanges are unstable and according to daily reports that are published, prices go up and down.
