Serbia at 65th place in terms of internet speed: Three times slower than in Romania and TWO TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE

According to the latest research by the company Cable.co.uk, which tested internet speed in 221 countries and territories on the planet for a year for a full year, Serbia ranked 65th in the world in terms of Internet speed.

In order to download a 5GB movie in Serbia, it takes a little less than half an hour, a research conducted by this company has shown. The average internet speed in our country is 24.74 megabits per second (Mbps).

When it comes to neighbouring countries, Croatia ranks 25th, Romania 26th, Bulgaria 36th, Montenegro is 63rd and Bosnia and Herzegovina is 88th. The worst internet in the region is in Northern Macedonia, which is in 108th place.

When it comes to the price of cable internet, Serbia assumed the 27th place, with an average package price of 17.02 dollars. In Romania the same package costs 8.15 dollars, which puts this country in the 4th place. Bulgaria is in the 23rd place (15.93 dollars), while in Croatia the internet is almost twice as expensive as in Serbia, so that country is in the 65th place.

Three years ago, Serbia ranked 45th, but that does not mean that today the average internet speed is worse than it was, as other countries have made significant progress. In 2017, the average in Serbia was 12.25 Mbps.

The fastest internet in tax havens

Liechtenstein is in the first place with 229.98 Mbps, which means that in this country it takes only two minutes to download a 5GB file, the research showed. At the very top there are several other small countries such as Jersey and Gibraltar, and top ten also include Luxembourg and Monaco.

The worst ranked are African countries, where it takes several hours for this procedure. Last on the list is South Sudan, where it takes just under 20 hours, with an internet speed of 0.58 megabits per second.

One could say that the surprise for everyone is the speed of the Internet in China, which is also not in a more enviable position. Although it is considered to be a country with growing advancements in technology, China, with its 5G cities, is in 201st place with 2.09 Mbps, the research results show. On average, it takes five and a half hours to download the mentioned film in China.
