Serbia gets a modern chocolate factory set to become a regional centre

High quality chocolate and cocoa manufacturer Barry Callebaut Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Serbia and the City of Novi Sad regarding the construction of its first chocolate factory in Southeast Europe.
As it is announced, this is a state-of-the-art plant which will be located in Novi Sad. The planned initial capacity of the factory exceeds 50,000 tons a year, and the factory is expected to start operating in 2021.
The total investment volume over the five-year period is planned to reach 50 million euros.
Prior to the signing of the Memorandum, Barry Callebaut’s delegation was hosted by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.
„An export-oriented market leader is joining the food industry of Serbia and it will bring our country state-of-the-art technology and expertise, as well as investments and jobs for our people.“
Serbia will do everything in its power for this project to succeed, the president said.
„Over the past few years, the company has been very successful in Southeast Europe. Novi Sad is a perfect location for us as it gives us access to the resources we need to achieve our plans,“ CEO of the Barry Callebaut Group, Antoine de Saint-Affrique, said on that occasion.
In line with our strategy of „smart growth management“, the factory will represent a regional center from which Barry Callebaut will supply chocolate to the markets of Southeast Europe, which are recording high growth, he said.
