Serbian cement plant IN COURT because of – air POLLUTION

The Lafarge cement plant in Beocin will appear in court because it has repeatedly polluted the air in the past two years. The Provincial Secretariat for Environmental Protection will file a complaint against the company, and it was ordered to take special measures to eliminate irregularities. Beocin, a small town in Vojvodina, is on the map of the world’s most polluted cities. Air is often unhealthy, as it has recently been confirmed by an inspector. In September 2019, the rotary kiln released hydrogen chloride into the air, with an average half-hour value exceeding 200 percent on 62 occasions. A month later, dust particles were released into the air. On 847 occasions, the mean half-hour value was twice higher than the limit. The situation was similar in November. Due to such statistics, the factory was ordered to take special measures. The factory continues to operate, and if the court confirms the inspector’s reports, it will have to pay a fine for the established excessive values.
