There are more Serbs in Austria than in Cacak

The population of Austria is growing steadily – on January 1 the number exceeded 8.8 million, and Germans and Serbs are the most numerous foreigners.

On January 1, 2019, Austria had 8,859,992 inhabitants, which is 0.43 percent more than in the previous year, according to the statistics of the Statistical Office. The population growth is somewhat slower, since between 2012 and 2017 it was 0.80 percent on average.

At the beginning of this year, there were 1,439,401 foreigners living in Austria, thus the share of foreigners in the population reached 16.2 percent, which is 0.4 percent more than last year.

Germans represent the largest foreign group with 192,462 members. Ranked second are the citizens of Serbia with 121,547 inhabitants, followed by Turks (117,262).

This means that there are as many Serbian inhabitants living in Austria as in entire Krusevac or Kraljevo, and more than in Cacak. According to the estimates of the Statistical Office, in 2017 there were about 120 thousand inhabitants in Kraljevo and Krusevac, while Cacak had 111 thousand inhabitants.
