„There are people who have earned EUR 600,000 and think they should not PAY TAX?!“

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that yesterday’s first meeting with the representatives of freelancers was difficult.

„I think we have different views. I insisted on defining exactly who the Internet Workers Association represented, which category of people we were talking about, because I could not accept that there were people who earned 69 million dinars – i.e. EUR 600,000 and they thought they should not pay taxes. Then why would an entrepreneur from Kaludjerica or Trstenik or Cicevac pay taxes? If there are people who rent apartments per day and have an apartment at Studentski trg, that is a huge amount of money that they earn,“ she said.

Katarina Pavlovic of the Internet Workers Association has told Prva TV that their basic request was to stop sending invitations and doing tax control, by adopting minutes and decisions, and to stop sending all the decisions already made, including to the people who started the reprogram, and who had so far entered that procedure.

„The first hour of the meeting was not constructive at all, the fact that we sat there for more than two hours is not really proof of anything. The second hour was already a little more constructive, there were disagreements about the manner of fulfilling this request,“ Pavlovic noted regarding the abovementioned meeting, adding that they remained at their initial position.

She pointed out that the exemption from any payment of taxes and contributions retroactively for the last five years was requested.

„Taxes are constantly mentioned in the media, while this also refers to contributions. We did not reach an agreement with the state. „I understand that the state wants to systematically regulate this issue, and at one point they mentioned including us in the task force for the adoption of the future law, but until we solve this problem, we cannot make further progress,“ she said.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that there were people who earned over 50,000 euros a year on online betting.

„It is unbelievable that someone brings that much money into the Republic of Serbia and thinks that he should not pay a single penny of taxes,“ she said.
