Vucic’s promise: EUR 100,000 for future winners of gold medals in Olympics

President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has announced that the amounts of monetary awards to the participants in the Olympics for the medals won at the next Games will be increased to EUR 100,000 for gold, 90,000 for silver and 80,000 for bronze.

He thanked the members of the Serbian national team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo for their „enormous work and incredible time“ which they devoted to „defending the colours of Serbia and bringing joy to its citizens.“

„At all the sports competitions, citizens are always with them, but the Olympic Games are not only games of individuals and teams, not only a show of unity and quality in sports, but also a kind of competition of nations,“ Vucic said at the reception held in the Presidency for the Serbian athletes who won medals at the Olympic Games.

The athletes who represented Serbia won three gold, one silver and five bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and they will receive monetary awards for this.

Vucic pointed out that Serbia was fifth in the region in terms of the number of medals at the 2012 Olympic Games, and today it was second, i.e. behind Hungary, with 20 medals.

„Hungarians deserved this, not only because of 20 medals, but also because their state invested a lot. More than we did,“ Vucic said.
