WE ARE DISAPPEARING: 40,000 more deaths than BIRTHS

On the basis of negative population growth, the population of Serbia decreases by an average of about 35,400 people every year, it was stated at the presentation of the data by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS). In Serbia, in the first 10 months of this year, the negative demographic growth was about 40,000 people – 53,082 babies were born, 585 more than in the same period last year, and about 93,000 people died, 470 more, statistics showed. According to Assistant Director of the RZS, Dusan Gavrilovic, in the period from 2005 to 2018, the average annual number of births was 67,364 and the number of deaths was 102,797. „Every year, on the basis of negative population growth, the population of Serbia decreases by an average of about 35,400 people,“ he said. If we take into account the data of the European Statistical Office, Eurostat, which shows that about 50,000 people leave Serbia annually, it means that in 12 months our country will be „reduced“ by nearly 90,000 inhabitants…
