„We are thinking of CLOSING major companies for 7 or 14 days“

The Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has stated today that several steps will precede eventual introduction of full-day curfew, a measure to combat the pandemic of the coronavirus. „I think the profession agrees, this can be heard at press conferences. We are trying to avoid it. The Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and I discussed about further steps prior to such measure,“ Brnabic has stated for „Prva“ TV station. She stated that the steps in question represent isolation measures of the major epicentres of the coronavirus – Belgrade, Nis, Novi Pazar, Valjevo and Cuprija and shutdown of major companies for seven or 14 days. Brnabic has explained that the curfew measure from Friday at 5 pm to Monday at 5 o’clock in the morning has been adopted because during those days the majority of citizens are on the streets and measures of the Serbian government are obeyed the least. She has confirmed that pensioners will be able to go shopping on Friday from 4 am to 7 am in the morning, instead of Saturday, as it has been so far, due to a prolonged curfew over the weekend. Citizens will be able to take their pets for a walk on Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 10 am and from 11 pm to 1 am during the night. During curfew farmers will be able to continue work in their fields. She has pointed out that Serbia’s healthcare system is „under major pressure“, as all hospital capacities in Belgrade and Nis have been filled, thus hospitals in Pancevo and Batajnica will be transformed into „COVID hospitals“.
