A Day for Family BONDING: The Commissioner is asking for non-working Sunday

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Jankovic has submitted an initiative to the Ministry of Commerce to amend the Trade Act so that a rule according to which shops would not work on Sundays and during public and other holidays can be adopted. „Sunday in traditional Serbian culture is perceived as a non-working day, a day of rest intended for family bonding and socialization,“ Jankovic said. She backed up her initiative by saying that the largest number of employees in the trade sector work on Sundays, a total of 200,000 employees, of which more than 70 percent are women. Since almost all shops work on Sundays, and employees most often get a day off during the week, this also creates difficulties with babysitting, because kindergartens do not work on weekends. One must also have this in mind because the demographic situation in Serbia has been unfavourable for decades, she pointed out.
