„A new era of Serbian – U.S. relations“: DFC office opened in Belgrade

A country in which the Americans want to invest has future, Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic stated, after signing a joint statement on the opening of the office of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation DFC in Belgrade.

„As for the arrival of the DFC in Belgrade, leaving aside the symbolic significance, where they arrive and where the Americans want to invest, there is a future. Those are good signals and great symbols for such a country,“ Vucic said at a press conference in Belgrade after his meeting with the US delegation led by DFC Executive Director Adam Boehler and the Special Envoy of the U.S. President for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Richard Grenell.

Vucic assessed that Serbia had not had such important agreements with the United States since 1881, when it regulated trade relations with the United States in a contractual manner.

„I think that we opened the door of old friendships with the United States following the agreement in Washington. Those talks were not easy, but Serbia will fulfil all obligations in that agreement. A new era of Serbian – U.S. relations has begun, which is crucial for Serbia,“ Vucic said.

He added that Serbia’s idea is to develop economic relations with partners in the Western Balkans. „We want to have four great freedoms, freedom of movement for people, goods, services and capital. That will change the atmosphere in the region and improve people’s lives,“ Serbian President assessed.

He added that both the Serbian and Albanian people will benefit from the latest agreements.

„It is our job to take care of people’s prosperity, it is time to take care of the people. This is a good job for both Serbs and Albanians and everyone else. It is the best message for everything that is happening in Belgrade today,“ Vucic said.

He added that he especially wanted to thank the U.S. President, Donald Trump, who, according to him, wanted to listen, hear and show respect for the Serbian people and the citizens of Serbia.

The Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and DFC Executive Director Adam Boehler previously signed a statement on the opening of the Office of that development corporation in Belgrade.
