Brits build FACTORY in Zajecar, possible problem – skilled workers

The Serbian government and the British company Aptiv have signed a memorandum of understanding for the opening of a factory of that company in Zajecar, where about 2,000 workers will be employed. The negotiations over the opening of the Aptiv factory in Zajecar lasted almost a year. Finally, it all ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding, and the works on the opening of the factory are expected to begin early next year. The factory is a „greenfield investment“ as it is being built from scratch. Thus, after Leskovac and Novi Sad, where they already have factories, British Aptiv, which is engaged in the production of electrical and electronic equipment for vehicles, will open another company in Serbia, and according to the information available so far, it will invest close to EUR 20 million. Unofficially, the British company plans to open a 40,000-square-meter facility in Zajecar. They decided to build the factory from the ground up in the industrial zone on Zvezdanski put. Since the town on the Timok River, which has about 6,000 unemployed people registered with the National Employment Service, does not have enough skilled workers, the possibility is considered of employing suitable staff from all the towns and municipalities in the Timok area, which is why it will be necessary to re-qualify the workforce for the needs of Aptiv. Namely, Aptiv has opened a plant worth almost EUR 30 million in Leskovac, which currently employs around 300 people, but it is expected to employ 2,000 workers by 2020. The British company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, operates in 45 countries around the world and employs 147,000 workers.
