Diplomas and for self-made: Experience will be recognized as a school qualification

The procedure of recognition of previous learning experience will be tested in 22 secondary vocational schools from spring, in order to enable citizens who have acquired certain knowledge and skills outside the formal education system, through training, life and work experience, to obtain a qualification equal to that acquired through formal education, recognized on the labour market.

This means that someone who has not finished school for a certain reason, and has acquired certain qualifications, e.g. worked as a cook, now has an opportunity to legally obtain a degree.

Based on the analysis of needs on the labour market and the unemployed, nine educational profiles were selected for the pilot project – bricklayer, reinforcement worker, carpenter, operator of construction vehicles, baker, butcher, cook, woodworking technician and a fashion tailor, the Ministry of Education stated.

These are qualifications that have been determined to have been acquired through informal training or work experience by the largest number of unemployed.

Once the proposed solutions are checked through pilot testing in practice, the process of recognition of prior learning should become a procedure through which secondary vocational schools, verified for the process of recognition of prior learning, will be able to check and validate knowledge of adults acquired through training or work experience.

According to the Law on the National Qualifications Framework, through the recognition of prior learning, one can acquire qualifications at the II, III and V level of education.
