Fiat’s management renders measures MEANINGLESS: Supplier’s trade union REQUESTS HALT in production

The independent trade union of FCA Plastic Serbia Kragujevac claims that the management of this company, which is the supplier of parts for Kragujevac-based Fiat, has rendered the epidemiological measures of the Government of Serbia meaningless, and it requests the halt in production due to health hazard for the employees. „In Fiat Plastic, the potentially infected workers have not received test results for COVID-19 for 10 days. Workers who have been in contact with the tested employees, and who, in the event of positive results, would have been in isolation for a long time, come to work unhindered, possibly further spreading the infection. We have suggested to the company’s management that, since the system is not functioning as planned, self-isolation should be applied as prevention for suspicious contacts, but our proposal was rejected,“ the company’s trade union said. The trade union adds that „new measures are mentioned, according to which there must not be more than 10 people in a group, under masks outdoors, but obviously there can be hundreds of people in the halls in factories. Thus, in addition to regular car production Fiat Plastic also manufactures ordered spare parts.“ The union’s branch office emphasizes that the fact remains that the company’s management continues to ignore the fear of the employees, who are concerned that the same scenario will happen as in Zastava Oruzje, and it still insists on continuing the production of spare parts next week, in a complicated epidemiological situation in this town, under the working conditions that, even under the normal circumstances, border on regularity during the summer months, let alone while workers wear masks, irresponsibly risking the workers’ health“.
