Hisense Gorenje cuts its workforce by 1,000, fewer employees in Valjevo as well

Hisense Gorenje announced that it is forced to discharge 1,000 employees, due to a decline in orders. Decrease in the number of workers will also include Valjevo based plant. Following the onset of the global pandemic of the COVID-19 virus, orders in all Hisense Gorenje plants in Slovenia, Serbia and the Czech Republic have been reduced, by a third in March and by almost two-thirds in April. In May and June, orders are down around 25 percent compared to the same period last year. Bearing these reasons in mind, Hisense Gorenje Europe is forced to begin the process of terminating labour contracts for around 1,000 employees across Europe, as decrease in the number of orders also decreases the need for workers in production and related organizational units, the company said in its statement. As for Gorenje plant in Valjevo, these measures will encompass only a small number of part-time workers whose contracts expire in the following period and will not be renewed at this time. During the process of reduction of the number of employees, all members of the Hisense Gorenje Europe will strive to minimize redundancies as much as possible, using “soft” methods to reduce the number of employees, including the sale of outsourced companies, which was previously also defined as a strategic commitment, voluntary departures, retirement, etc.
