    IMPORT rises and so does Serbia’s DEFICIT in foreign trade

    Serbia’s foreign trade in the period January-August 2019 increased by 7.9 percent to 26.89 billion euros compared to the same period in 2018, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia said. The export of goods, expressed in euros, amounted to EUR 11.488 billion, which is an increase of 6.9 percent, while import amounted to EUR 15.4 billion, which is an increase of 8.7 percent compared to the same period last year. Expressed in euros, deficit rose by 14.5% compared to the same period in 2018 reaching 3.9 billion euros. Industrial production in Serbia in August 2019 compared to August 2018 increased by 0.5 percent, while in the period January-August 2019 it decreased by 1 percent compared to the same period of 2018. Mining recorded growth by 17.5 percent, and electricity, gas and steam supply by 4.5 percent. Decline was recorded in the processing industry by 1.8 percent, the Statistical Office of Serbia said. Industrial production volume in August 2019, compared to August 2018, recorded an increase in 13 areas and a decrease in 16 areas, according to the statistics of the Statistical Office of Serbia. The production of basic pharmaceutical products, coal exploitation, electricity production and other processing activities had the greatest impact on the growth of industrial production in August 2019, compared to the same month in 2018, it is concluded in a statement.
