Kon: RECOMMENDATIONS could turn into OBLIGATIONS

Regarding the current epidemiological situation in the country and the attitude of citizens towards prevention measures, epidemiologist Predrag Kon wrote on his Facebook profile that the measures that are currently at the level of recommendations, if necessary, will be mandatory once again, without a curfew. Kon assessed that the COVID-19 epidemic has been politicized in Serbia, and it is especially used by, as he stated, the movement that is against immunization. He expressed concern over the major distrust of the Serbian society towards its own preventive medicine, which he believes is the foundation of every healthcare system. Kon added that the biggest critics of the state of emergency due to COVID-19 and curfew are now completely shocked by its abolition. Kon asked whether we are a society that understands only prohibitions, legal obligations and penalties that result from non-compliance with those obligations. „I think that a lot can be done in this period of the corona crisis to increase awareness in Serbia that in every pandemic it is very important to understand that it is always a war against a biological agent,“ Kon pointed out. He pointed out that the obligation to take care not to infect anyone is related not only to COVID-19, but also to any other infectious diseases, even in non-pandemic conditions.
