„Measures are VIOLATED at EVERY step and in EVERY city“
State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mirsad Djerlek, has said that the control of the implementation of measures for the suppression of coronavirus must be urgently changed in Serbia.
Djerlek pointed out that on Saturday, epidemiological measures were violated at every step and in every city – in parks, on promenades…
„We can adopt whatever measures we want, but if there is no good control, then it is not worth anything to us. Full promenades are the same as letting 50,000 fans go to Marakana Stadium. That was the situation at Ada Ciganlija on Saturday,“ Djerlek told TV Pink.
He emphasized that „we could win this battle only jointly and with respect for epidemiological measures“, adding that the Crisis Staff could adopt even stricter measures, but it was much more important how much they were adhered to.
„The healthcare system has been under tremendous pressure in the last two or three months, and I cannot say that it is a matter of days how long we will endure, but I can say that the situation is extremely serious and that we need great solidarity at this time,“ says Djerlek.
He adds that the measures give results in the sense that there is no acute, continuous spike, but the numbers of newly infected are „stuck“ high all the time and 5,000 new cases are recorded daily, many of which require hospitalization, so the hospitals are full.
Mass immunization, he says, is the strongest weapon that can help us fight the virus.
