New attraction in Belgrade: What will LINE PARK look like (PHOTO)
A new city attraction, a landscaped public space in the area of the former railway from Beton hala to Pancevo Bridge, designed as a „Line Park“, should soon begin to be built.
The first works on this project have been announced for the end of this year, and the landscaping of the space will begin in the area near the Belgrade Fortress.
Project covering as much as 66 hectares
After the end of last year’s competition, a detailed land use plan for the entire area covering as much as 66 hectares is now made available for public inspection, the Beobuild website reports.
The detailed land use plan divides the green public space into 10 units, with six additional zones that will touch the borders of the future Line Park.
It will connect other public spaces and a series of various functions and ambient units along the 4.5 km-long stretch, which will help build a new urban identity and further develop the Danube slope.
5km bike path, 100,000m2 of pedestrian areas
The line park is planned to have about five kilometres of bicycle paths, 100,000 square meters of pedestrian areas, 200,000 square meters of green areas, 5,000 new trees and 500 benches for visitors.
According to the officials’ announcements, the total value of the project should amount to 55 million euros, of which 15 million euros have already been allocated in the first phase in the city budget.
In the immediate vicinity of this, according to announcements, high quality public space there are numerous historical and cultural attractions, sports centres and tourist infrastructure, such as Belgrade Fortress, Beton hala, passenger port on the Sava, SRPC „Milan Gale Muskatirovic“, tennis courts „Novak“, Danube quay, etc.
That is why the integrative role of the Line Park in the planned urbanization of this part of the Danube bank especially stands out. In addition to the existing facilities, numerous future projects are planned on the edges of the planned green belt, such as Marina Dorcol, reconstruction of the thermal power plant „Snaga i svetlost“, industrial heritage zone, as well as housing projects „Novi Dorcol“, „Duga“ and „Luka Beograd“.
