NEW MEASURES: Grocery markets open for public, those over 65 years of age can take a walk

Decisions to mitigate certain measures related to prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 virus have been adopted at today’s session of the Serbian government. Starting from Tuesday, April 21st, employers in the field of services, such as car mechanics and tire shops, shoemakers, tailors, dry cleaners, driving schools, as well as employers in the field of retail trade – bookstores, car and bicycle dealers, nautical shops, technical goods and construction materials are allowed to work. As it was announced earlier, grocery markets (both outdoor and indoor) will be reopened as of tomorrow but with mandatory implementation of all protective measures against the spread of the coronavirus. The Government is also inviting employers in the field of construction (high-rise and low-rise civil engineering) to resume full work at full capacity as of tomorrow, April 21st. All employers are obliged to secure protective equipment to their workers (masks, gloves and disinfectants) and work must be conducted while respecting a social distance. Employers are required to develop a special plan of emergency measures, while employees are obliged to comply with such measures, media report. Those who are still unable to continue their work are facilities which work involves gathering large number of people, such as various stores located in shopping malls. Also, work is still not allowed in businesses that involve a close physical contact, thus hairdressing salons, beauty salons, gyms and fitness centres remain closed until further notice. It is important to emphasize once again that work in facilities and businesses that will be allowed as of tomorrow can only be executed with respect to all safety measures and use of disinfectants and protective equipment – masks and gloves. As of tomorrow, citizens above the age of 65 will be able to take a walk on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays for half an hour. This is one of the new measures adopted by the Serbian government at today’s session, in line with the epidemiological situation and opinion of the profession. Those above the age of 65 will be able to take half-an-hour walk between 6 pm and 1 am after midnight, no more than 600 meters from their place of residence.
