Pristina to ABOLISH TARRIFS as of March 15th
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti has announced that gradual abolishment of tariffs on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will commence on March 15th. „First, as a sign of goodwill and willingness to resolve the economic dispute with Serbia next week, on March 15th we will make a decision 15 to abolish tariffs on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina,“ Kurti has said at the emergency press conference. At the same time, Serbia should commit to stopping the campaign against Kosovo’s recognition of independence and also start removing trade barriers. „If the Serbian side shows its readiness and removes tariff barriers, we will abolish the tariff completely by April 1st, for the period of 90 days,“ he has said. Thirdly, Kurti has said the EU very much appreciates the government’s decision to abolish the 100-percent tariff and offers visa liberalization for citizens of Kosovo before the Zagreb summit on May 7th, 2020. According to the Kosovo Prime Minister, in case Serbia does not comply with the obligation to remove barriers and does not interrupt Kosovo’s anti-independence campaign, Kosovo will start implementing reciprocity measures as of April 1st, initially in the area of trade relations. Kurti has concluded that if the Serbian side does not respond to these requests, the Kosovo Government will reinstate a 100-percent tariff on June 15th.
