REM banned videos calling for a BOYCOTT

The Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) has instructed all providers of media services to stop broadcasting political advertisements calling for a boycott of elections scheduled for June 21st. As it is stated in the announcement, by inspecting the program content of N1 and Nova S TV stations, it was determined that, starting from June 15th, four versions of the political advertisement have been broadcast, in which voters are invited to boycott the elections. „According to laws on electronic media and advertising, only electoral lists announced by the Republic Election Commission (REC) have the right to use political advertising within the pre-election campaign. Since it is unknown who the advertiser is and whether it has the right to use political advertising, and for the sake of REM’s further actions, all media service providers are instructed to stop showing the above mentioned political advertisements,“ the REM Council said in a statement. REM states that any further broadcasting will represent grounds for imposing measures, in accordance with the Law on Electronic Media.
