Serbia recycles 53,000 tonnes of tires annually
53,000 tonnes of tires are recycled in Serbia on annual basis, which Director of the Environmental Protection Agency Filip Radovic evaluates as an excellent result. In his statement to „Tanjug“ agency, he explains that tires are very profitable when recycled, and government grants significant subsidies for this type of business. „Serbia has around 36,000 tonnes of tires on its market every year, and it reports also include single tires when they are imported on vehicles, thus this amounts to around 53,000 pieces a year,“ he says, adding that good result in tire recycling is because state grants subsidies of RSD 20 a kilogram for this type of work. As he points out, Serbia has the biggest subsidy among countries in the region and thus it encourages the recycling industry. „Our plan is to further engage the collection network, i.e. to direct redistribution of funds collected from importing companies to companies or persons collecting tires as well, as this is an important moment in order to remove tires from the nature,“ Radovic says.
