Serbia rejected a loan of the EC. Mali: We do not need loans from the EC and the IMF

The European Commission has adopted today a proposal of the package for macro-financial aid in total of EUR 3 billion, for countries in the process of enlargement, in order to aid them in limiting the effects of the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and Serbia the only country in the region not covered by this proposal. The reason is that Serbia did not see the need to turn to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial support. „We are not on the list because we do not need this assistance. Our public finances are healthy and stable and, as Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic already said, we do not need such large loans, especially short-term ones, either from the European Union or the International Monetary Fund,“ Mali stated with B92.net. One of the criteria for participation of countries in this package was whether they asked the IMF for urgent aid in form of liquidity assistance, as would be the case with the Rapid Financing Instrument. „Departments of the European Commission have presented Serbia with the possibility of IMF aid, in the context of a prepared rapid financing instrument. At the moment, Serbian authorities do not see the need for external financial aid and have decided not to turn to the IMF for financial support,“ one of the officials of the EC press service stated with Radio Free Europe.
