Significantly fewer people left Serbia for Germany
Immigration to Germany in the first six months this year slowed sharply due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the number of immigrants from Croatia also significantly decreased, the Federal Statistical Office of Germany announced.
„In the first six months of 2020, 529,000 people immigrated to Germany, which is 29 percent less than in the same period last year,“ the Wiesbaden Institute said.
While in January and February the number of immigrants was at approximately the same level as in 2019, from March to May, when the so-called lockdown was in force in Germany, the number of immigrants dropped by 42 percent.
In the first six months of this year, 10,263 people immigrated from Serbia to Germany, and 8,522 from BiH. That means a drop by 29.1 percent for Serbia compared to the same period last year, and 37 percent for BiH.
The number of immigrants from Croatia also significantly decreased. In the first six months, 13,159 people immigrated from Croatia to Germany, 39.8 percent less than in the same period last year.
