The first coronavirus case in a school in Belgrade: They sent a child to school even though they were waiting for test result

On September 1, the coronavirus already entered a primary school in Belgrade, and the Ministry of Education filed a complaint against the parents of the pupil, who was sent to school while infected. The complaint is filed with the Social Welfare Centre for violating the safety of other children and negligent behaviour, as Minister of Education Mladen Sarcevic confirmed for the Blic daily.

The case happened in the primary school Braca Jerkovic in the quarter of Zeleznik in Belgrade. According to the Blic daily, the pupil goes to the third grade, and his mother sent him to school on September 1, although she was waiting for the results of the covid-19 test.

The child was tested on August 31, and his parents, despite the fact that they still did not know whether the covid test was negative or positive, sent him among other children to school. The mother found out that the pupil was infected with the coronavirus in the afternoon and she immediately informed the teacher.

Minister of Education Mladen Sarcevic says that he was informed about the whole case from the beginning.

„As soon as we found out about the case, we immediately took all the necessary protection measures. It is simply unbelievable that the mother, who is employed in health care, sent the child to school. After informing all the authorities that the test was positive, everyone wondered why she sent the child to school at all. Fortunately, all the children wore masks and it was a small group of pupils,“ Minister Sarcevic told the Blic daily.

He added that the group of pupils, with whom the infected pupil was in contact, was transferred to online classes. The teacher also does not come to school.

„The Ministry of Education filed a complaint against this family to the Social Welfare Centre due to a serious violation of the safety of other children and negligent behaviour,“ said Sarcevic.

As he adds, perhaps it is a good thing that this happened at the very beginning of the school year, to serve as a lesson to everyone that they must take care.
