    The virus „CAUGHT“ Serbian industry

    Industrial production in Serbia in April 2020 is lower by 16.6 percent when compared to April 2019, while, compared to the average in 2019 it is lower by 20.8 percent. Industrial production in the period January-April 2020, when compared to the same period in 2019, is lower by 0.8 percent, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia announced. When observed by sectors, in April 2020, compared to the same month of 2019, the manufacturing sector recorded a decline of 19.9 percent, and the sector for distribution of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning recorded a decline of 9.9 percent. The mining sector recorded the lowest decline of 0.1 percent. The volume of industrial production in April 2020, compared to April 2019, records decline in 22 sectors (participation in the structure of industrial production is 75 percent), and growth in seven sectors (participation in the structure of industrial production is 25 percent). Production of rubber and plastic products, motor vehicles and trailers, food, electricity and beverages had the biggest impact on the decline in industrial production in April 2020, compared to the same month in 2019. The production of small enterprises (fewer than 50 employees), which are not encompassed by the regular statistical survey, is monitored on a sample of selected units from the manufacturing sector.
